On Aug. 21, multiple officers and employees were recognized for exceptional service/acts during a department meeting held at the Page Police Department. Awards included:

Officer Brandon Callio:

Officer Callio received two Life-Saving awards and Exceptional Service award. During the first event, Officer Callio contacted a person who was unresponsive and not breathing. Officer Callio discovered that the person’s airway was blocked. Officer Callio cleared the airway and began life-saving measures until EMS arrived. This was a successful life-saving effort.

In the second event, Officer Callio and Officer Christy Robinson responded to a stabbing. Upon arrival, the victim was bleeding excessively and had already lost a lot of blood. Officers Callio and Robinson applied a tourniquet and pressure to multiple stab wounds, which helped save the person’s life.

Officer Callio also received an Exceptional Service Award for leading the entire department in citations issued during the 2023-2024 fiscal year. Officer Callio is committed to reducing traffic-related accidents. Many of the citations he issued were in and around school zones.

Sergeant Trevor Campbell:

Sergeant Campbell received a Life-Saving award. Sergeant Campbell responded to a hotel for a report of a person not breathing. Sergeant Campbell located the person and found they were not breathing and had no pulse. Sergeant Campbell began life-saving measures (CPR) until EMS arrived and took over. EMS eventually transported the person to the hospital. This was a successful life-saving effort.

Recovery Court Coordinator Vaughn Goatson:

Vaughn Goatson received an Exceptional Service award for his efforts working with individuals who are participating in the Page Magistrate Recovery Court program. Vaughn works with people who struggle with substance abuse. Multiple people whom Vaughn worked with graduated from the program after several months of sobriety and other mandated criteria. Yesterday, two more individuals graduated from the program. Vaughn's efforts have helped multiple individuals break the revolving cycle of substance abuse and spending time in jail. Vaughn is passionate about helping others. If you or someone you know needs help with substance abuse, please ask for help. It will change your life! The program’s motto is, "Show up, try hard, be honest." If anyone has any questions, contact Vaughn at 928-645-4361.

Lieutenant Ted Barnard:

Lt. Barnard received an Exceptional Service award. Lt. Barnard has been instrumental in bringing Page PD's Communications Center and Property & Evidence Division into consideration for accreditation later this year. Although Page PD's law enforcement divisions have already received accreditation, Page PD is on the verge of becoming the first agency in the state to receive accreditation for Law Enforcement, Dispatch, and Property & Evidence. Lt. Barnard was instrumental in getting the department ready to be audited so we can move forward in the accreditation process.

Detective Ann Lange:

Detective Lange received an Exceptional Service award. Detective Lange reviewed several cold cases and other cases that were previously closed. Many of the cases were reopened and after additional investigation, multiple cases were closed, some with suspects being charged for crimes they committed. These cases were important because they all involved victims that otherwise would not have received justice or closure.

Officer Nate Carlson:

Officer Carlson received an Exceptional Service award. During fiscal year 2023-2024, Officer Carlson led the department in DUI arrests, total arrests, and total reports taken. Officer Carlson's commitment to reduce injury-related accidents in our community is what he says motivates him to enforce traffic laws.

Detective Terry TerEick:

Detective TerEick received an Exceptional Service award. During his tenure as a Detective with the Page Police Department, Detective TerEick has investigated numerous felony related cases and has a 100% conviction rate in cases that have gone to trial or grand jury. These cases are important because almost all of them involved victims. During the 2023-2024 fiscal year, the Coconino County Attorney's Office requested Detective TerEick to assist them with providing courtroom testimony training to Page PD and other agencies in Coconino County.

Captain Larry Jones:

Captain Jones received an Exceptional Service award. Captain Jones is Page PD's accreditation manager. He not only is responsible for ensuring Page PD maintains our accreditation standards as set forth by the Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program; he has been instrumental in assisting numerous other agencies across the state in meeting accreditation standards. In April 2024, Captain Jones received the Robert J. DeVries Leadership Award, which recognized the professional excellence he displayed relating to his work with the Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.

Executive Administrative Assistant Alie Malnack:

Alie Malnack received an Exceptional Service award. Throughout the year Alie planned and coordinated several events including Shop with a Hero and National Night Out. She also helped plan and coordinate Page PD activity during the July 4 festivities, the Balloon Regatta, multiple parades, and other events. During the year, Alie coordinated fundraisers such as bake sales and Navajo taco sales that help raise money and that keep the community involved and notified about these events that ultimately help others. Lastly, Alie was instrumental in helping our Records Division stay in compliance with the law enforcement accreditation standards regarding police report submissions.

Officer Christy Robinson:

Officer Robinson received a Life-Saving award. Officer Robinson and Officer Brandon Callio responded to a stabbing. Upon arrival, the victim was bleeding excessively and had already lost a lot of blood. Officers Callio and Robinson applied a tourniquet and pressure to multiple stab wounds, which slowed the bleeding enough so the victim could be transported to the hospital for treatment. Officer Robinson's and Officer Callio's efforts were successful in helping save the person’s life.

Chief Tim Lange said, "I cannot speak highly enough about our staff. We already have one officer who will receive a life-saving award and other employees who will be recognized for exceptional performance just since the fiscal year began July 1. Every time something needs to get done or an obstacle arises, people in our organization step up, volunteer to help and work together to get things done. Our staff is amazing!!"

Page City Councilor Mike Farrow told the Chronicle, “I’m incredibly proud of our officers and specifically Brandon Callio, the newest officer. What’s missing is the driving force of that department and the motivation toward excellence that has officers like these awarded. It’s our chief. He works tirelessly to motivate, instill pride and guide a department to what it is now.”

On Aug. 21, we held a fundraiser for Shop with a Hero and we're pleased to announce we surpassed our goal and raised enough funds to support an additional 21 children for our annual event in December. Members from Page Police Department, Page Fire Department, and our friends and family assisted in making this possible. THANK YOU to everyone that came out and showed your support; we cannot express our appreciation enough! Our next fundraiser for Shop with a Hero will be held on Oct. 1 at our National Night Out event. If you are interested in making a donation to Shop with a Hero, please call (928)-645-4106.

Aug. 21: Our schools in Page will experience a noteworthy improvement in safety and security this year through the presence of Page Police Department officers participating in the School Safety Officer program (SSO). At the forefront of this initiative is Cooper, one of Page PD's exceptional drug interdiction K9s, actively patrolling the schools alongside his partner. This program enhances our security while empowering our students with essential law-related knowledge, presented in collaboration with their classroom teachers.

On Aug. 19, 2024, a Page PD officer stopped a vehicle on U.S. 89 for failing to maintain its lane of travel. Upon contacting the driver, the officer witnessed signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication. A DUI investigation was completed and the driver, identified as Malakai Morgan, was arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicating beverage.

Morgan was transported to the Page Police Department, where he became uncooperative. Morgan was placed in a holding cell and shortly thereafter purposely damaged a fire sprinkler, which caused the booking area to flood with water. Page Fire and Public Works personnel had to respond and fix the damaged water fixture.

Morgan was then transported to the Coconino County Jail for booking, where he attempted to assault an officer. Morgan was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, aggravated assault, and felony criminal damage.
