The Page girls tennis team continues to look very good this year, collecting two more wins last week. They defeated Northland Prep 7-2 and the Kingman Bulldogs 9-0.
“Northland Prep is the team to beat,” said head coach Kori Fitch. “They are strong one through six. My girls stayed mentally tough. Saria Bryan and Brooke Engle had to really dig deep and concentrate to win their matches. They both had tie breakers but pulled through.”
“Kiaya Park lost her first match on a very intense tiebreaker,” said Fitch. “It was the third set and very close 10-12. I want my girls to give 100 percent so that when they do lose, that experience of struggle is when growth occurs. My team needs those challenging moments so that we evolve into a kind of team that can withstand any challenge.”
Kiaya Park won 8-1, Saria Bryan won 8-1, Jorbyn Boldin won 8-4, Brooke Engle won 8-0, Kelsey Smith won 8-1, Ivy Ubarco won by forfeit.
In doubles, Park and Bryan defeated their opponents 8-0, and Boldin and Ubarco defeated their opponents 8-1.
They host Anthem Prep this Friday at 1:30.
Page boys top Kingman
The boys tennis team defeated the Kingman Bulldogs 9-0 last Friday.
“The Page tennis team, though very young, has been playing good tennis,” said head tennis coach Jerod Viers. “Juniors Caleb Ober and Ethan Oman are strong leaders. Freshmen Jordan Varner and Tony Isaac have supported the varsity team with wins at four and five in singles, and as a doubles team.”
Ober and Oman, at one and two, won by forfeit last Friday. Jahzeel Acosta defeated his opponent 8-2, Jordan Varner defeated his opponent 8-0, Tony Isaac defeated his opponent 8-0, and Ben Treece defeated his opponent 8-6.
In doubles, Ober and Oman defeated their opponents 8-0 and Acosta and Varner defeated their opponents 8-1. Isaac and Treece won by forfeit.
