Irene Marie Schuring (nee Waschk) was born in Osterode, East Prussia, Germany, on May 4, 1923. Her parents were Friedrich Waschk and Anna Elise Schmidt.
Throughout World War II in Germany, Irene encountered and survived many difficult wartime challenges, and has lived her whole life with the same basic values of simply doing what needs to be done, honesty, frugality, and modesty.
In 1963, at 40, Irene immigrated to the United States with her husband and two children, not knowing any English, and has lived in Santa Barbara, CA; Buffalo, NY; Akron, OH; Prescott, AZ; and Page, AZ.
Irene leaves behind her two children Susanne (Scott) Kennedy of Page, AZ, and Martin (Gail) Schuring of Tempe, AZ, and her only two grandchildren Shane and Hunter Kennedy. At 101 years old, she was preceded in death by her two siblings, Ernst and Fritz Waschk, and her husband of 51 years, Dieterich Johann Schuring in 2006.
Dementia is a very cruel and prevalent disease with much needed research. May treatments come forth so less people suffer in this way.
Goodbye Mom, I miss you deeply every day.
Sue
