Carol Evangeline Mathieson passed away at the age of 91 on the evening of Aug. 9 at the BeeHive Homes of Page, where she resided for the past five years.
Carol was born on Dec. 8, 1928, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She grew up in the Thief River Falls area of Minnesota on her family’s farm with her parents Oscar and Nellie Peterson and with her brother Russell, who passed away at a young age.
Carol worked as an airline stewardess for a short time, but she went on to work in a career as a bookkeeper. She worked mostly in California, in Santa Monica, and later in the Palm Springs area, where she lived until moving to Page in 2004, to be closer to her son.
When Carol drove around Page, she would be easily spotted, driving her Ford Mustang Mach 1 that she bought new in 1968. She always got a kick out of either people wanting to take a picture of it, or people asking if she would consider selling it.
Carol would often enjoy meals and activities at the Community Center in Page. She enjoyed socializing there with friends, both old and new.
Carol enjoyed spending most of her free time crocheting, doing a craft project, or embroidery work. She participated often in various community craft sales, having a booth full of crocheted blankets and throws, embroidered pillowcases, hand sewn holiday rocking horses, or hand-crafted wooden spoon reindeers. She put a lot of love into her projects.
While in California, Carol participated in a pet therapy program that allowed her to take her dog into hospitals and skilled nursing facilities for therapeutic visits. When she moved to Page, she continued this trend for a short while, taking her dog “Samantha” into the hospital and into the BeeHive for visits.
By 2015, her health had declined, and it was then that she became a resident of the BeeHive Homes of Page. All of her family are extremely grateful to the staff for their patience, caring, and top-notch care given to her while she was there. They – her family – want to thank the staff for truly making it a home away from home for her. The family would also like to thank Zion's Way Home Health & Hospice, the Page Hospital emergency room doctors and nurses, the EMTs, and Dr. Holsten, for the help and care they have given to her over the years.
Carol is survived by her son, James “Skip” Lennox and her daughter-in-law Sydney Lennox of the
Greenehaven area outside of Page. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Jaime Lennox, and her grandson, Ryan Lennox, both of San Diego, California.
