Page City Council voted last week to direct Page Utility Enterprises to start the process of increasing electricity rates for the city. The rate increase has been made necessary by a combination of the significant loss of Page’s low-cost hydroelectric power and in an increase in wholesale electricity costs.

The Library Journal has awarded Page Public Library five stars – its highest rating – on its list of America's Star Libraries for 2022. Only one other library in Arizona, Phoenix Public Library, has been given the top rating.

The 89Forward business conference last week attracted about 100 participants for a series of sessions on everything from dealing with difficult customers and marketing through social media, to developing a welcoming small business environment and preparing local businesses to welcome film crews to Page.

Page-based nonprofit organization Synergy Creatives is organizing the Lake Powell Children and Teen Business Fair on March 11. The event will be held at Page Public Library from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Sweetheart Flea Market organized by the City of Page was held on Elm Street on Feb. 11, attracting about 25 vendors selling everything from Native jewelry, crystals and Valentine’s gifts, to used clothing and furniture, skincare products and food.

The 89Forward business conference will be held at Courtyard by Marriott in Page on Feb. 21-22. The two-day event marks the revival of the conference, which occurred in 2018 and 2020 but was put on hold during the height of the COVID pandemic.

Powell CrossFit in Page held its second CrossFit Native American Scholarship Program on January 28-29. The program is aimed at training members of the Indigenous community to become certified CrossFit coaches so they can start their own fitness programs, promote healthy lifestyles and fight chronic disease on the Navajo Nation.

The Canyons RV Resort opened for reservations this week, offering new options for visitors to stay the night in Page. The resort is open for extended or nightly stays.

Baya and Paul Meehan, owners of Shash Diné EcoRetreat near Page, traveled to New York City last week for the launch of Shash Diné for Hotel Collection, a limited-edition collection of home pieces available exclusively at Macy’s.

Signs and barricades were put up last week prohibiting vendors from continuing the informal flea market that has been operating since early 2022 just off Coppermine Road, near the intersection with Highway 98.
