Although I am no longer a resident of Page due to various health issues, I still consider Page my “hometown” and have retained many close, personal relationships.

As a former member of the Page City Council, I  continue to watch the City Council meetings on YouTube in order to keep apprised of not only the political atmosphere of the town, but for information regarding City projects, condition of the Lake and status of tourism, etc.  With the upcoming elections I was interested in the make-up of the candidates.  I was very impressed with the high caliber of candidates and their ongoing involvement, commitment, and experience within the community.

After viewing the June 11 candidates’ debate, I thought the questions presented were all pertinent to the issues of the day and all  the candidates did a great job with their responses.  However, I was a little surprised to see Mrs. Roundtree rebuke Rick Yanke while he was giving his response to the Downtown Beautification question: she did apologize but then with the next question addressed to Rick, she literally took the microphone from his hand to make another remark.  I thought this was not only rude but certainly unprofessional, especially from a woman who said she was open to other people’s opinions.

Thank you to Judy Franz, executive director of the Chamber, and her staff for providing the opportunity to “meet the candidates” debates.
