For decades, the Canyon Club has worked behind the scenes with one primary goal — making Page a better place.
The fruits of their labor can be seen throughout the city — a pavilion at Horseshoe Bend, another at Memorial Plaza by City Hall and the 4-H barns Page students use every day. But the 19 men who make up the service club have another goal in mind, an even bigger one.
They are currently working to make improvements to Grandview Knoll, a popular spot off 20th Avenue that overlooks Lake Powell and connects to Rim View Trail.
“Grandview Knoll was recognized in this last park master plan as a good site for a scenic overlook,” explained Canyon Club member and City Councilman Dugan Warner. “It’s a place where you can have ceremonial activities.”
Warner said Grandview Knoll could be popular for weddings, picnics and other fun events — if improvements are made.
And those improvements are what the Canyon Club has in mind.
The club is planning to create off-street parking with ADA accessible pathways. They hope to build three pavilions at key viewpoints down the slope to avoid impeding the views from the top.
The challenge the club has now is raising the money to do so. Every year, the club has one fundraiser — The Red Ball Golf Tournament and Dinner.
