Suspect arrested in buried body case

Meek charged with fraud, concealing a body, other felonies

The Page Police Department revealed last week it had arrested a suspect connected with a dead body buried in the backyard of a home on the 100 block of South Navajo Drive.
Recovered in November 2015, investigators say they believe 54-year-old Timothy Wayne Meek, a former resident of Page, buried the body of his stepfather, George Lewis Bartlett, after the latter had passed away at the home.
Bartlett was believed to be around 84 years old at the time of his death and forensic evidence indicates he likely died of natural causes. Both were believed to be living at the home during this timeframe.

Meek then allegedly continued to collect on benefits that Bartlett had been receiving through multiple government agencies, reportedly totaling upwards of $300,000 since the time of his death. Both Bartlett and Meek were military veterans.
Investigators say they don’t know exactly how long Bartlett was buried, but his remains were fully skeletonized.
Page police Lt. Larry Jones told the Chronicle investigators believe it was a timeframe of at least “several” years.
A warrant was issued for Meek’s arrest in December 2016. He was arrested earlier this March at his current residence in Pueblo, Colorado. Meek has since been extradited back to Arizona and booked on charges of fraud, taking the identity of another, money laundering, concealment of a dead body and felony theft, and is currently awaiting trial.
