No. 1 Page Sand Devils vs. No. 22 Tuba City Warriors
PAGE – The Sand Devils went into the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s 3A ranking as the No. 1 team to beat right now, capturing their 16th win of the season by 32 points.
With the talent they have on this team, they have finally got mature and loving the heat, along with Coach Justin Smith and his coaching staff Aaron Anderson, Alvin Smith and Joe Wright.
Going into the Warriors Pavilion for a 3A North Region Conference game, the Sand Devils were ready to take it to the hard floor and strive for that big win.
At the start of the first quarter were tight shots going for both teams. Teamwork fell in place for them, weakening the Warriors’ defense.
Senior guard Gabe Gomez turned up the heat for the team with two assists, five rebounds and netted two 3-pointers. Junior post Stuart Sandall had three assists and eight rebounds. Senior guard Jordan Varner had one assists, two rebounds and netted one three-pointer. Junior point guard Jonah Holiday had two assists and 10 rebounds.
These players are mostly first stringers. Justin Smith said his players need the experience because they will be relied on when the time comes.
The Sand Devils played exceptionally well in the 32-point victory.
The Sand Devils came into this game ready to play. It was the same thing Thursday night against Tuba City with talented players who grew up like family since their freshman year, and now they’re on the varsity squad.
The Sand Devils have most of the players coming back next year. So, these young men are ready to lay it out on the hard floor with a team, but you can’t doubt this year’s varsity squad. Justin Smith has faith in every player on his.
Ganado was not able to overcome the Sand Devils' pressure and committed numerous turnovers throughout the game.
As for the Sand Devils, they were doing a lot of fast breaks, and hitting key shots and having a huge night with rebounds.
Junior guard Robert Smith nailed 3s at the NBA three-point line. As for sophomore guard Maurice Smith, Jonah Holiday, and Stuart Sandall, they all had one three-point shot of their own, adding another blowout for the Sand Devils by 44 points against the Hornets.
