Helping Hands Agency's 18th annual Fall Festival at John C. Memorial Park Oct. 24-26

PAGE – There will be plenty of yummies in the “pumpkin house” during Helping Hands Agency’s 18th annual Fall Festival.
“We have pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin rolls, just to name a few,” said Cynthia Kokasko, executive director and founder of Helping Hands Agency Inc. “And there will be a wonderful harvest soup, which is really yummy.”
The Fall Festival begins today, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m. at the John C. Memorial Park, where there will be games for adults and children alike. The festival ends at 5 p.m. on Oct. 26.
“We’ll have hamburgers, hot dogs, Navajo Taco burgers, funnel cake, and we have the pumpkin house,” Kokasko said. “Bring out your carved pumpkins, we’ll display them in the pumpkin house. There will be a pumpkin carving competition with prizes as well.”
As evidenced by the name, this annual family-friendly event means pumpkins in every shape and size. But that’s hardly all––spend Friday and Saturday visiting the arts and crafts booths where the youngsters can decorate a mask or do a sandpainting project, and of course, don’t forget to stop by the pumpkin-themed photo booth.
But that’s not all. Kokasko said there will be a “festival challenge” for all ages, including an ice cream-eating contest and a pie-eating contest on Saturday.
“I have all kinds of fall festival challenges for kids, to come and test their skills or taste some different yummies prepared in a different way.”
And there will be live music, a costume contest for both pets and humans at 3 p.m. and at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
“We also have artwork that our (members) at Helping Hands have created and that will be a silent auction,” Kokasko explained. “That will close at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. We also have baskets that have been donated and you can also do silent auction on the baskets.”
Festivalgoers can also bid on prizes, such as helicopter rides, a quilt, a raft trip, among a list of others.
“We call it ‘Pumpkinville’ here, so come out and enjoy,” Kokasko said. “We’ll have a pumpkin bonfire over here. We’ll have tables, so come out and chat. We love that it’s just an old-fashioned, fun fall festival.”
She added, “We’ll have a cake walk–– We have 16 decorated cakes available for the cake walk, so people can come out and do that old-fashioned cake walk.”
