A 47-year-old male from Cedar City, Utah drowned in Lake Powell last Wednesday, July 25.
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area dispatch received a call of a possible drowning in Lake Powell at 11:24 a.m.
National Park Service rangers responded from Wahweap Marina and arrived on the scene at 11:36 a.m. and located the reporting party. Witnesses told officers that the victim was attempting to retrieve a boat anchor in feet of water approximately 30 feet from shore. According to the witnesses, the victim did not resurface after diving for the anchor. The victim’s family members dove into the water attempting to rescue the victim but were unsuccessful.
The victim was transported to Coconino County coroner for autopsy.
