Fifteen clients from the Helping Hands Agency are sharing Artist of the Month at the Powell Museum this month.
A reception in their honor will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 17.
The museum is displaying 17 pieces of art from 15 Helping Hands clients. The collection includes art done in acrylic, yarn, fabric and mixed media that incorporates acrylic and fabric.
The 15 artists are looking forward to their moment in the spotlight, said Leslie Wilson, Helping Hand’s day program lead director.

“They love going over there and attending a reception held in their honor,” said Wilson. “They’re very proud of the art they create, and love to have it displayed, and the Powell Museum arranges a very nice reception for us.”
Creating art is a daily activity at Helping Hands.
“It’s one of their favorite parts of the day,” said Wilson. “They really like to express themselves through their art.”
The daily art class is often incorporated into a weekly theme, said Wilson. For instance, last week they were learning about jungles and that week’s art classes centered around jungle themes.
“The partnership between the Powell Museum and Helping Hands is one that has been happening for years, and we’re happy to be continuing the tradition,” said Billie Wright, Powell Museum director. “I think it’s a very worthwhile that our community support them, and I think they’ll be impressed and inspired when they do.”
You can also find art from the Helping Hands clients displayed at the I Believe Gallery, which will re-open later this month.
