The Lake Powell Chronicle was awarded three awards last week from the Arizona Newspaper Association during its annual Better Newspapers Contest.
The Chronicle was awarded second place for Newspaper Supplement or Magazine for its spring edition of Gateway Magazine. Gateway Magazine is a quarterly travel magazine produced by the Lake Powell Chronicle for tourists traveling the Grand Circle. Lake Powell Chronicle editor Steven Law brought home two writing awards: a first place in the category of Best Feature Story for his feature titled “The joys of sleeping on a raft in the Grand Canyon” and a second place in the category of Best Column for his essay “I love that autumn heater smell.”
“We do the entire Gateway magazine in house. The writing, the photos, the layout and graphics. The staff puts a lot of heart and time into it and we take great pride in it.
“I’m happy to see Mr. Law bring home some awards also,” said Jensen. “His writing has always been a great addition to the newspaper and its readers.”
