A heartbreaking finale for Lady Sand Devils

Page falls just short in state title game

Posted

The Page girls basketball team pushed the No. 1 team in the state to the brink in the Class 3A state championship game over the weekend before falling, 41-40 to Valley Christian. Valley Christian led most of the game and had a five-point lead midway through the fourth quarter. But the Sand Devils rallied and took a lead with a minute to go. But the final minute went to Valley Christian, and the Sand Devils suffered a heartbreaking loss as a last-second shot missed.
Above, Head Coach Ryan Whitehorse designs a play for his team in the championship game’s final moments. Coach Whitehorse finished the season 25-4 overall and was also named the 3A Coach of the Year. Right, Whitehorse rallies his players during a Trojans time out last Saturday.
