Bad drivers are wasting resources

Page Police are seeing a pattern of bad driving behavior.

From Jan. 1, 2024 to June 20, 2024, Page PD reported 64 DUIs, 1,228 traffic stops, 58 roadway-related accidents, and 49 private property accidents. Police issued 214 citations and gave 994 warnings.

The Police Department said, “DUI and accident investigations take a considerable amount of time and tax our public safety resources. The statistics documented in this post are all within the Page city limits and do not include accidents and other calls for service our officers and fire personnel respond to that are outside of our city limits.

“As we approach the July 4 weekend, Page PD reminds everyone to leave early, don't drink and drive, don't text and drive and PLEASE, get there safely!”

City Manager Darren Coldwell received a nod from the council at the June 26 meeting to purchase additional speed limit radar signs. Coldwell warned council it took 14 months to receive the three in use now.

"We need to have them lot more places," said Councilor Mike Farrow, "around our schools and in different spots, because people aren't getting it and our Chief and our Police Department are doing everything they can. You look at their statistics; they're catching people left and right. We need everything that we can do to help our law enforcement help our citizens and help people slow down."

Page PD press release: Accreditation assessment

Accreditation Assessment Team invites public comment

PAGE, AZ - A team of assessors from the Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ALEAP) will arrive on July 9, 2024 to examine all aspects of the Page Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services. As part of this on-site assessment, employees and members of the general public are invited to provide comments to the Assessment Team. They may do so by telephone or email. The public may call 928-645-4105 Wednesday July 10, 2024, between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Telephone comments are limited to five (5) minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with the Commission’s standards.

A copy of the standards is available for inspection at the Page Police Department. Please contact Captain Larry Jones at 928- 645-4378. Anyone wishing to offer written comments about the Page Police Department’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation is requested to email the Accreditation Program Manager at kevin.rhea@azchiefsofpolice.org or write the Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program at 75 E. Civic Center Drive, Gilbert, AZ 48296.

The Page Police Department must comply with 174 standards in order to achieve re-accredited status. The Accreditation Program Manager for ALEAP is Kevin E. Rhea. “The assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar Arizona law enforcement agencies. The assessors will review written materials, interview agency members, and visit offices and other places where compliance with the standards can be observed. Once the assessors complete their review of the agency, they will report to the full Commission, which will then decide if the agency is to be granted accredited status,” Rhea stated.

Accreditation is valid for a four-year period, during which time the agency must submit annual reports attesting to its continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited. The Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police (AACOP) is the accrediting agency in the state of Arizona.
