On July 20 at approximately 1 p.m., Page Police and EMS responded to a single-vehicle collision at the intersection of North Navajo Dr. and 20th Ave. The vehicle was traveling southbound on Indigo Ridge Blvd. As it approached 20th Ave., it went off the left side of the road and struck several large landscaping rocks causing it to lose control, spin out and stop facing north on North Navajo Dr. Occupants in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and fled on foot but were captured by responding officers. Alcohol and speed were contributing factors. Investigation is ongoing.
On July 18 at approximately 1:30 a.m., a vehicle was traveling northbound on South Navajo Dr. when the driver lost control. The vehicle traveled off the roadway in the 100 block and struck a wall. The driver and a passenger were killed, and two other passengers were transported to the hospital with injuries. Alcohol and speed appear to be factors that caused this accident. Names are being withheld pending notifications.
On July 16, 2024 at 8:25 p.m., a Page PD canine officer was conducting traffic enforcement when a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. During the investigation, the officer obtained information that led to a drug detection dog being deployed. The canine alerted to the presence of illegal drug odor. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia and presumptive fentanyl. The passenger in the vehicle, identified as Audrey Tso, was arrested for possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Chief Tim Lange said, "According to the Attorney General’s office, in 2023 there were approximately 123 million fentanyl pills seized in Arizona. That total accounts for over half of all the fentanyl pills seized in our entire country last year.
“That number supports the claim that the majority of illegal fentanyl being seized in the United States is entering the country from our border with Mexico.
“Like every other community in Arizona, Page is seeing the horrific impact these drugs are having on our society. We will keep arresting those who violate our drug laws, but more needs to be done to mitigate the fentanyl epidemic."
[Posted July 15, 2024] On June 14, 2024 a detective who was assigned to work a traffic detail initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle that was traveling 72mph in a posted 40mph zone. It should be noted that traveling in excess of 20mph over the posted speed limit is a criminal offense.
The vehicle was being driven by Kyle Hicks of Tuba City, Arizona. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Marcella Tallsalt of Gap, Arizona. Hicks showed signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication and was arrested for aggravated DUI. It was determined that Hicks had 2 outstanding warrants for his arrest and Tallsalt had 8 outstanding warrants for her arrest. Additionally, several pieces of drug paraphernalia were located inside the vehicle. During the investigation, Page PD dispatch learned the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Tuba City Police District earlier in the day.
Hicks and Tallsalt were both booked into the Coconino County Jail on the warrants and additional charges related to this investigation.
