Dust Devils are NAIC Champions

For the fourth year in a row, the Page Middle School football team is NAIC champion, after defeating the Baker Middle School Colts 12-0.

It was a cold night and the rain fell steadily, making for a slippery field and a slick football that resulted in more than the usual amount of fumbles and interceptions.

The Dust Devils started the game on offense and moved the ball downfield in chunk plays behind their big running back Tayden Benally. Three minutes into the game, he scored the Dust Devils’ first touchdown. Page came up short on the extra point, taking an early 6-0 lead.

On the Colts’ first possession, they went four and out, turning the ball over on downs. The Dust Devils’ second possession was a repeat of their first, progressing the ball steadily downfield on more big runs from Benally.

The second half of the game was a drizzly Groundhog Day of fumbles, interceptions and false starts. The Colts’ final five possessions ended on a fumble or interception.

Saturday night’s game against the Colts was the fitting end to a great season of football for the Dust Devils. They finished the season with a record of 7 wins and 2 losses.

Page Middle School football head coach Donovan Hudson was very happy with his team’s play during the championship game.

“We played awesome,” he said. “We dominated. For the final game of the season, we wanted to dominate the Colts and we did. We made a goal back in July to win the NAIC championship, and we accomplished it.”
