Last weekend, was The Lake Powell Amateur Championship at Lake Powell National Golf Course. Thirty players competed in five different divisions in the 36-hole individual stroke play event. In the Senior Division, Rusty Gallagher won for the second year in a row with rounds of 85-90. Brian Hammond won the net division (with handicap) improving his second round score by 11 shots.
In the Ladies Championship, Josie Doyle shot 95-97, good enough for a one-shot victory over Star Dickson. Mel McBride was low net for the Ladies. In the Men’s Second Division ( handicaps 19+), Kyle Hemstreet of Tuba City ran away with low gross shooting 86-89. Gerald Etsitty of Shonto won low net with 75-68.
In the 1st Division (handicaps 10-18), Tom Nelson’s opening round 90 left him 7 shots back of Brady Budd. Then on Sunday, Tom came roaring back with a 78, his lowest competitive round, to win low gross. Dave Tibbetts was low net with a 69-74. In the Championship Division, Matt Wood who last won in 2005, erased a 3-shot deficit after an opening round 80 with a 1-under par 71 on Sunday to edge out defending champion Sam Bennett by two strokes. Adam Cranston was the net champion with rounds of 73-71
