Softball team advances to quarterfinals after beating Holbrook

They play next game this Friday and 8 p.m.

The Lady Sand Devils’ softball team advances to the quarterfinals in the Conference 3A Division for the state championship title. They beat the Holbrook Roadrunners 8-2 in Phoenix last Saturday in the first-round eliminator of the state playoffs.  


On the mound was Shelby Blake who is quickly climbing division records for pitching the most wins in the 3A North league.


The Sand Devils took the lead in the first inning bringing in four runs. The Roadrunners held them back in the second inning but the Sand Devils brought in three more runs in the third inning giving them a 7-0 lead.


The Sand Devils tried for another 10 run win but the Roadrunners brought out their defense in the fourth inning to hold the Sand Devils at bay. Both teams showed great defense but Blake pitched the first four innings without allowing a run.


In the fifth inning the Sand Devils offense scored another run. The Roadrunners finally got a run on the board as well bringing the score to 8-1.


The Sand Devils held their lead during the next two innings but the Roadrunners put another run on the board in the seventh inning. Too little, too late.
The lady Sand Devils emerged victorious in the first round of the state playoffs 8-2 to advance to the quarterfinals.


The next game they will take on the River Valley Dust Devils, ranked number one run the 3A West region and the number one ranked team in the 3A Conference Division. The upcoming game shows promise of skill and strategy for both teams’ starting line up according to their league records. The Sand Devils and the Dust Devils, along with similar mascots, also have remarkable regional stats that will highlight the athletic abilities of both teams in every respect.


The game will take place this Friday at 8 p.m. in Phoenix at the Rose Moffard Sports Complex.
