Soccer falls in Phoenix

Learns valuable lessons

The boys soccer team traveled to the valley last week where they played against Phoenix Country Day, a private school in Phoenix.  They lost 9-1.
Some of that is due to the fact that they traveled with only 14 of their 20 players, having left some home who were sick.
“But they also outplayed us,” said boys head soccer coach Ryan Palizzi.
However, some good was salvaged from the loss, said Coach Palizzi.

“We can take more away from a 9-1 loss like this than we do from the 17-0 win we had at the start of the season,” he said. “It was good for our players to see just how good the teams are that they’re up against, and how much we need to improve to compete with them.”
Overall it was an encouraging week for the boys soccer team, said Palizzi.
“We have a lot of new players and we haven’t played together as a team too much,” said Palizzi. “I’ve really seen them improve a lot in the last month, and I expect to see some wins soon.”
The soccer team was supposed to play in the Show Low Invitational last Friday and Saturday but Show Low overbooked the tournament, then uninvited Page the day before.
The boys soccer team is now 1-1 for the season.
The Sand Devils have two home games this week.
They play Camp Verde on Thursday at 4 p.m. and Northland Prep on Saturday at 1 p.m.
