Powell Museum dinner and auction a big success

Though attendance was down a little, the museum still met their goals.

Last Saturday night was a busy holiday night in Page with a concert at the CAB, the community tree lighting at Antelope Canyon, and the Powell Museum’s annual auction and dinner at Gone West.

Attendance at the Powell Museum’s fundraiser was down a little this year, said Billie Wright, Director of the Powell Museum. She attributes it to having so many other competing activities vying for the town’s attention. But despite the slightly lower attendance the event was still a great success, she said.

“We still did excellent,’ said board member Viki Wainwright.

The auction and dinner is their sole fundraiser for the year. All proceeds from the night go toward the museum’s operational expenses.

Wright says she and the rest of the board were very pleased with the new venue at Gone West.

“The food was fabulous,” she said. “They really came through, and their space is perfectly-suited for an event like ours.”

The crowd of about 40 people mingled and talked, and perused the many items displayed on tables that were available as part of the silent auction.

A delicious, buffet style dinner of prime rib, mashed potatoes, corn bread, and various salads

was served from six until seven, after which the live auction began. Paul Ackerman served as the auctioneer and M.C.

After the auction, The Lake Powell Outlaws took the stage and entertained the crowd for the rest of the night.

Wainwright says if she was granted a wish from Santa Claus it would be to have a community-wide master calendar so in the future there will be less overlap on Christmas events, fewer events scheduled on the same night so that the people of Page can attend more of the activities.
