PAGE – Two Kayenta 19-year-olds were arrested after Page Police Officer William J. Schuldies found heroin, 2 pounds of marijuana, methamphetamine, and a scale inside a vehicle during a traffic stop on South Lake Powell Boulevard.
Royce D-Yoe Charley and Jalen Terrell Lane were both arrested Aug. 17 on drug-possession charges at 205 S. Lake Powell Blvd., near Cyclone Stadium at Page High School, according to the Page Police Department.
Schuldies, the school resource officer for Page Unified School District, made a traffic stop on a vehicle that day for a traffic violation. Three individuals were inside the vehicle, including Charley and Lane.
“During the course of the traffic investigation, numerous items of illegal drugs and associated paraphernalia were located inside of the vehicle,” said Page Police Detective Terry TerEick. “Marijuana, (meth), and heroin were seized, along with a scale suspected of being used to package the drugs for sale.”
Charley and Lane were both charged with possession of dangerous drugs for sale, possession of narcotics for sale, possession of marijuana for sale, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both men appeared in court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 23, according to court records.
This traffic stop was part of a local aggressive traffic enforcement initiative in school zones that started Aug. 7, on the first day of school.
During that two-week period, seven individuals also were cited with speeding in school zones, two individuals were cited for failing to stop while pedestrians were in crosswalks, and one person was cited for driving under the influence of marijuana while in a school zone.
Countless others were given warnings for various violations, including passing in school zones, and parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk, said TerEick.
