Page Walmart celebrates completion of renovations

The Walmart Supercenter in Page held a “re-grand opening” ceremony on Jan. 27 to celebrate the completion of store improvements after months of remodeling.

The ceremony was led by Store Manager Brennen Butterfield, who has been with the company for 11 years. He worked at the Page Walmart from 2015 to 2019, then transferred to locations in Mesquite, Nevada, and Alamosa, Colorado, before returning to Page in March 2022.

Kirklin Yazzie started the ceremony by offering an opening prayer and blessing, followed by the singing of the National Anthem in the Navajo language by Calla Smith.

Butterfield said attending leadership seminars run by Walmart had taught him the importance of being “part of your community.”

“Invite the community to your events. Help them in the community when they request help,” he said, adding that in the past, Walmart employees have volunteered to participate in the annual Page Attacks Trash event.

On Friday, he presented a Community Grant of $2,500 to Judy Franz, executive director of the Page-Lake Powell Chamber of Commerce.

“We thank Walmart because you guys are big in the community, and you support us when something comes up,” Franz said. “What you supported us for was putting some good signage up in our windows at the Visitors Center for the Page-Lake Powell Hub.”

She added that she loves coming to the store “because a lot of you I do know.”

The formal ribbon-cutting was performed by three employees who have worked at Walmart for 30 years or longer: Arleen Yazzie, Gerallyn Whitehorse and Beverly Dixon.

The Page Walmart remodel includes several department transformations and improvements, including new interior and exterior signage and paint, a new cosmetics area, updated restrooms, a more defined online pickup area and additional parking slots.

“We’re always striving to make our customers’ lives easier,” Butterfield said. “We welcome the Page community to come out and see the many enhancements throughout the store and try our improved online pickup options.”

Another new addition to the Page Walmart is a mural painting of Horseshoe Bend, located inside the front entrance nearest the south side of the building. The mural is part of Walmart’s Community Mural Program, the largest public-facing art installation nationwide.

“It’s a creative way for us to celebrate community, inspire connection and foster a sense of pride and belonging for our associates and customers,” according to a statement released by Walmart.

“Every mural is unique and reflects the diversity and local cultural references of each neighborhood where we operate. Art tells stories of who we are and has the power to illuminate, educate and spark dialogue. With the help of our store managers, we’re able to bring community to life in each of our stores across the country.”
