PAGE – The Page Police in the early morning of Oct. 19 responded to an unresponsive female at Banner Page Hospital. The female was pronounced dead at 2:23 a.m.
Authorities later identified her as Shaundeen Atene from Shonto, Arizona. She had just turned 21 years old, according to a fundraiser page on social media.
An examination will be performed by the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office. The Page Police is conducting a joint investigation with the county sheriff’s office. And the investigation into this incident is underway, according to Page Police Lt. Larry Jones.
Atene, better known as “Buzzy,” had two boys, Jacoby Roy Poorman, 6, and Nolan Daniel Laughter, 1.
“We never thought we’d ask for assistance for such circumstance,” wrote Seth Laughter, Atene’s husband, on the fundraiser page, where $5,153 was raised of a $7,000 goal for funeral expenses. “Extra donations will be used for the needs of both of her boys.”
The fundraiser started on Oct. 20 and ended on Oct. 21.
Atene attended Shonto Preparatory School in Shonto, where she played sports, including volleyball.
