Page Community Center wants to host your club, event

It could be an ongoing group or a one-time event.

For the last week city work crews have rolled away a large section of sod at the city park outside the community center in preparation of expanding the center’s parking lot. As the facility has transitioned from the senior center to the community center it has seen a lot more activity and hosted many more events. Crystal Phillips, who was recently hired to be the community center’s new program coordinator, hopes to see the space get even busier.

“It’s a wonderful space, with lots of room and it’s being under utilized,” said Phillips. “It used to be the Page Senior Center, and a lot of people in town probably still think the space is only for seniors, but, that’s not the case at all. I want to make this a place that is inclusive for everyone in town.”

Phillips said the space is perfect for anyone who wants to start a club or teach a class but doesn’t have the space to do it.

“I want to see an artist’s group there, painting, hanging out and creating,” said Phillips. “It would be a great space for moms to get together with their toddlers. The toddlers can play together in a safe space and give the mom’s time to chat and relax.”

Phillips says groups can book the space for ongoing events, such as a weekly book club, or a one time or once-yearly event as well.

The community center is big and has several rooms. It can easily accommodate multiple groups at the same time.

“The big rooms are large enough for dance groups,” said Phillips. “If anyone wants to hold a swing dancing or country-western and folk-dancing night, we have just the spot.”
If you want to start a quilting club, an artist’s organization, an acting troupe, hold a meditation retreat, or sponsor a knitting marathon, but didn’t have a place to hold it, think about using the community center.

“This building belongs to the people of Page,” said Phillips. “Let’s put it to some good use.”
