County Manager Cynthia Seelhammer has announced the appointment of Cynthia Nemeth-Briehn as the parks and recreation director.
The board of supervisors are expected to approve the appointment at a regular board meeting.
The parks and recreation director of Coconino County maintains county parks and enriches recreational locations. The director will also help engage the community by utilizing these assets in a way that enhance the county.

Nemeth-Briehn is currently the parks and recreation director for Marana and has worked there since June 2015. Previously, she worked for Coconino County as the parks and recreation manager from 2005–2015.
“We are delighted that Cynthia will be returning to Coconino County as director the Parks and Recreation Department,” said Seelhammer. “The department has been nationally recognized for its innovative work developing public private partnerships to enhance park services while adding value to our community. Cynthia’s experience and qualifications will help lead the excellent staff that support our park system.”
Nemeth-Briehn earned a bachelor’s degree in recreation and sociology from the University of Arizona and a master’s degree in public administration from Northern Arizona University.
“Parks and recreation services are the thread that stitches the fabric of a community,” said Nemeth-Briehn. “My passion and my role in taking on this new position is to guide the needle through the fabric to better insure a vibrant, connected, sustainable and prosperous community. I am grateful to return to Coconino County and have the opportunity to direct the talented individuals that make up the parks and recreation team.”
“On behalf of the board of supervisors, I’m thrilled to welcome back Cynthia to the Parks and Recreation Department,” said Chairwoman of the Board of Supervisors, Liz Archuleta. “She will do a great job leading this department to meet future needs so residents and visitors can continue to enjoy our county parks.”
Nemeth-Briehn will begin her term as Coconino Counties parks and recreation director on July 31.
