Six Boy Scouts and three leaders from Page’s Troop 911 spent three hours last Saturday with the National Park Service’s True GRIT program removing etched-in graffiti from the rocks at the Dam Overlook. The scouts can apply the service hours toward rank advancements. “We had several visitors who were visiting the site ask us what we were doing and that gave us an opportunity to talk to them about the importance of conservation,” said Jason Jensen, Troop 911’s scoutmaster.
Kegan Rupp, one of the scouts involved in Saturday’s graffiti removal said it was hard work, but worth it. “All that graffiti looks bad and it ruins people’s experience. When people visit a place like this they want to see the natural beauty, not what other people have left behind.”
