The Lake Powell Quilters began their retreat by presenting Gawyn Horrocks with a quilt made especially for him to honor his service in the military.
Horrocks served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He joined the Army in Sept. 1969 and began his tour in Vietnam in April 1970 and finished a year later.
“I am very, very honored to be recognized by the Lake Powell Quilters as a Vietnam veteran,” said Horrocks. “It meant a lot to me.
The Veterans Quilt Project was begun by Lynne Peterson when the Lake Powell Quilters first began their annual retreat, and presenting a Page Veteran with one of their quilts has become a yearly tradition. The Lake Powell Quilters stitched the quilt’s front and back and Peterson quilted it.
