PAGE – Around 9 p.m. Saturday, a burglar broke into Lake Powell Furniture at 467 Elm St. Surveillance video shows a lone intruder.
According to the store owner, Kip Bennett, the person spent a half-hour bashing windows to gain entry.
He said, “They did manage to cut themselves fairly badly on their right hand.”
The video showed the person with a skateboard in hand at one point. Bennett said the person walked slightly pigeon-toed, was tall and slender, and wore a backpack and hoodie. The video also showed the individual was wearing a large watch on their left hand. Bennet said the footprints match the tread of Vans shoes.
Bennet said, “They did manage to get out of our building with our whole cash register.”
The Chronicle learned the burglar broke the glass and entered through a small window in the store's back. There were stacks of mattresses in front of the window that would have been difficult to maneuver through. There was a trail of blood on the mattresses. Another rear window was used to exit with the heavy cash register. A window screen was damaged in the process.
There is construction in progress behind the store, but the thief didn't appear to utilize the building materials to enter the building. Once in the store, the surveillance equipment was unplugged, so the video recording stopped at that point.
One employee speculated that the amount of money in the register was minimal and must have been a disappointment for all the effort.
Page Police Lt. Larry Jones told the Chronicle the police department has leads and officers are working on them.
Lake Powell Furniture is offering a cash reward for information leading to the person’s arrest and conviction. Anyone with information on this should contact the Page Police Department at 928-645-2463.
