K-9 sniffs out illegal drugs during traffic stop, 3 arrested

Police officer pulled over the RV for driving with its stairs down.

Page Police officers arrested three individuals Monday after a drug-sniffing canine alerted on their vehicle. The event was put in motion after an officer pulled over the vehicle because its stairs were extended, creating a traffic hazard.  The officer then called in the plates of the suspicious-looking RV and dispatch reported back that had a fraudulent plate.

After pulling over the vehicle, which occurred on the corner of Lake Powell Boulevard. and Elm Street, the driver suddenly put the RV in reverse and backed into the police car behind it.

Officers found meth on the driver and found that one of the passengers had an active warrant for his arrest. Because the drug dog alerted on the RV police impounded it and did a more thorough search.

Inside the RV officers found cocaine, marijuana, a firearm and numerous items of drug paraphernalia, which included items used with drug sales.

Officers arrested Andra Butler, Sarah Elizabeth Halsell and Matthew Green. All three were booked into the Coconino County jail in Page on charges of Possession of Marijuana, Possession of  narcotics, drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of narcotic drugs for sale, transporting marijuana for sale, transporting narcotic drugs for sale, possession of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony, and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited possessor. In addition, Butler was booked on charges of driving on a suspended license and possession of dangerous drugs.
