Glen Canyon NHA now accepting car donations

A tax break for you brings needed income for the NHA.

The Glen Canyon Natural History Association received its first car donation to its newly-established vehicle donation program last week.

Martin Stamat, executive director of the NHA, hopes this is the first of many.

“The program benefits everyone involved,” he said.  “Old vehicles are put to a new use and the proceeds help fund public lands surrounding Page’s homes and businesses alike.  Broken down vehicles are recycled and usable ones are sold at auction so they can serve another family.  Everybody wins.  All of us at the NHA are excited to see the program’s first donation. ”

This program seeks to enrich public lands, remove unwanted or unusable vehicles from driveways and side streets across the city and country, and provide donors with a tax-deductible receipt for their generosity.

The timing of it is pretty good too. The finalities of the used car donation program came just in time for the end of the year, when tax donations for the 2017 tax season face a December 31 deadline.

Though the program will highly benefit donators before the end of the year with the current tax laws, the NHA will continue to run the program indefinitely.

“If those interested in donating are unable to do so before the end of the year, they are welcome to donate at any time thereafter online and are still able to deduct their donated car under the new federal tax law,” said Stamat.

Vehicles donated to the program can be in running or defunct condition.  The NHA has partnered with a third -arty group to facilitate the program,  V-DAC, or Vehicle Donations to Any Charity.  Donors can go the NHA’s website to set up their donation. The website will prompt you to visit V-DAC’s interface to send the title. Your last action is to simply schedule a free pickup.  V-DAC partners with tow companies across the country to collect donated cars at the owners’ convenience, free of charge. The partnership between V-DAC and the NHA strive to be one of the easiest programs for car donations.

Proceeds from each donation go directly to the Glen Canyon Natural History Association as they seek to provide support to the Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service lands in our area.  Glen Canyon, Rainbow Bridge, and the lands of Grand Staircase-Escalante all benefit from the program.  Donors also find the program enriching; defunct cars can be removed from driveways, garages, yards, and lots free of charge to beautify neighborhoods.  The NHA feels fueled and excited by their first donation and are hopeful to receive many more.
