Geocachers scour Page for hidden treasure

More than 50 people – some as far away as Nevada – signed in to participate in the “Feeling Lucky?” geocaching scavenger hunt in Page on March 18. Participants started at John C. Page Memorial Park around 11 a.m. Each team was given a card with six blank boxes. They then headed out in all directions, using the geocaching phone app to search for six geocaches hidden around the city specifically for the event. Each of the special geocaches consisted of a metal box containing a stamp and ink pad. Once all six boxes on the team’s card were stamped, they returned to the park to pick up a swag bag as a reward. The “Feeling Lucky?” event was organized by the City of Page’s community development administrative assistant Sheri Ptacek (pictured) and the Page Public Library, with help from two avid geocachers who live in the Page area, Vivian Jessop and Marsha Bratcher. The metal boxes and stamps were all supplied by Page Public Library, as was the raffle prize of a geocaching kit, which was won by 13-year-old Hunter Heatwole of Page.
