Gabriel Dale Candelaria

Dec. 1,1957 - April 23, 2018

We would just like family, friends and acquaintances to know that our brother Gabriel Dale Candelaria has passed. Gabe was born in Winslow, Ariz. December 1, 1957 and passed away Thursday morning the August 23 in Payson, Arizona at the Payson Healthcare Center. Gabe was 60 years old. He would’ve been 61 December 1, 2018 .

He had been battling kidney disease for about five years. We moved to Page in June 1965 and he enjoyed living here and loved Arizona. He attended elementary, middle and high school in Page. He enjoyed sports, football,  basketball and baseball and played all of them very well and was a terrific athlete.

In the late 70s he worked at Wahweap as a dock hand and houseboat instructor.  He loved being on the water and enjoyed Lake Powell very much. He worked in the food and beverage industry for many years until he found his passion as a tour guide and photographer on the Navajo Nation.

He really enjoyed meeting people, playing his native flute and showing them many amazing sites on the reservation.

Gabe will be missed by his only son Roman Candelaria, his brother Ted Candelaria and Theresa Candelaria and his sister Vikki Rogers, his Uncle Willard Nez and his nephews and nieces. Gabriel is preceded in death by his mom Helen and his father Victor and his younger sister Yvonne (Bun Bun).

Gabriel’s wish was to be cremated and his ashes spread at some of his favorite places that he enjoyed photographing and visiting. His memorial is being planned around the third or fourth weekend of September and we will make that announcement for the definite date.

I’ll miss my brother tremendously in many, many ways. I’ll miss his smile and our conversation of what the Arizona Cardinals should and shouldn’t do.

I love you Gabe,
