Congressman O’Halleran urges passage of bill to protect DREAMers

Congressman Tom O’Halleran requested to be a co-sponsor of the bipartisan DREAM Act, a proposed bill that protects DREAMers who pursue higher education, work for three years or serve in the military from deportation and offers a path to citizenship.
“Congress must act to give young DREAMers stability and allow them to continue living legally in the only nation they have ever known,” said O’Halleran. “The abrupt decision by President Trump to end DACA has placed thousands of Arizona families and employers in limbo.

“These young people have placed their trust in the government when they applied for DACA, and now we must honor our promises and pass permanent, bipartisan protections.”
O’Halleran’s request to cosponsor the DREAM Act will be accepted once an equal number of Republicans cosponsor the bill.
He spoke on the floor of the House of Representatives last week to urge Speaker Paul Ryan and Congressional leaders to bring the DREAM Act up for a vote.
In addition, O’Halleran currently cosponsors the American Hope Act, which protects all DREAMers.
