Boys soccer team just miss playoffs

One more goal would done the trick.

The boys soccer team came up just short of qualifying for state after a competitive week of play last week.

They first battled Snowflake, a very good team and who’s ranked fourth in the state, and lost to them 3-2.

It was a hard loss, said boys soccer head coach Ryan Palizzi, especially since they felt they could have won. Two goals went straight through the hands of the Page goal keeper, and had that not happened Page would have won.

The Sand Devils next played Holbrook and beat them 3-2 in a very dramatic game. The game was tied 2-2 with just 30 seconds left in the game when Holbrook made a shot for the corner of the goal.

“The ball would have gone in the net but Jahzeel Acosta came in and kicked it right out of there,” said Coach Palizzi.

As time wound down Page’s Guillermo Gutierriz got a penalty kick, which he made to win the game 3-2.

Page needed to beat both Snowflake and Holbrook in order to advance to state. As it stands Page finished tenth.Coach Palizzi is anything but disappointed in his team’s performance this year.

“I am beyond happy with our player development this year,” said Coach Palizzi. “They really came together at the end of the season and stuck with it despite our early losses.

“We proved what we wanted to prove: that Page soccer doesn’t suck.”
