The Sand Devils wrestling team sent nine wrestlers to the state finals last weekend and three of them — Kamron Whitewater, Dante Gracia and Dakota Richardson — returned home with some hardware.
Whitewater, a junior wrestling in the 106-pound weight class, finished in third place, bringing home a bronze medal. Whitewater was defeated by Troy Ramirez from Sunrise Mountain in the semifinals. Whitewater went on to defeat Tanner Fellows from Show Low in the consolation semifinals which allowed him to move on to the next round and compete for third place.
In the match for third or fourth place, Whitewater defeated Juan Campista (39-9) from Pueblo by fall, or pin, winning the bronze medal.
Whitewater finished the season with a very impressive record of 50 wins and four losses.
