Phyllis Ione McCauley Fisher, 83, passed away in her home on August 2, 2022. She was born October 6, 1938, in Flagstaff, Arizona to Shelby Samuel and Agnes Ione McCauley. Phyllis married her high school sweetheart George Leonard Fisher on June 14, 1957. The family moved to Page in 1973 to join Leonard, who was working for Bechtel, building the Navajo Generating Station. She became a teacher’s aide in 1977 and then finished her degree and worked as a computer teacher in Page Middle School.
Survivors include her children Kelly (Nina) Fisher, Karyl (Mike) Keanaaina and Aaron (Stacy) Fisher; brother Glenn (Ellin) McCauley; sister-in-law Lois McCauley; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard, her parents Shelby and lone McCauley, and brother Hugh McCauley.
Phyllis was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a teacher in primary, Sunday school, Young Women and Relief Society. She was a family history consultant and worked in the Family History Center. She also served as Relief Society president and as Relief Society secretary. Her favorite calling was that of a Temple Ordinance Worker.
Phyllis began researching and gathering family history information in the 1960s, soon after joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and worked at it diligently until her death. She had a passion for family history work, and it was the focus of all her adult years. She wrote a family history book for each side of her family tree.
Graveside services will be held at the Citizens’ Cemetery in Flagstaff, Arizona, on Saturday,
August 20, 2022, at 12 noon, where she will be interred next to her husband. Arrangements were made by Mosdell Mortuary of Kanab, Utah.
