Page’s community of gardeners, bakers, artisans and craftsman displayed their works last Saturday at the return of the Page farmers market.  About 20 vendors sold their goods which included organic vegetables, herbs, eggs and honey, a variety of baked goods and artisan crafts such as homemade scented candles, soap and birdhouses.
The group was gathered beneath the shade of one of the park’s old cottonwood trees.
Local baker, Heidi Roth’s table of pastries was a popular stop with those visiting the market.  The farmers market began at 8 a.m. By 9:30 she had sold out.
“Business is good,” said Roth. “I can’t seem to bake enough [pastries] to last all the way to eleven.”

Roth says she plans to sell her pastries and sweet cakes at the farmers market all season long and plans to expand her menu to include gluten-free items, and pastries using flour alternatives, such as almond flour.
Melissa Olson makes soy-based scented candles as a hobby and she’s delighted that the farmers market gives her a place to display and sell her candles.
“[The farmers market] is good for my business,” she said.
In addition to having a space to sell her crafts she enjoys being at the park on a Saturday morning meeting and greeting the patrons who wander through.
“Half the fun of doing this is meeting new people,” she said.
Saturday’s turnout was three times the amount the farmers market had on its first day last year, said Judy Franz, director of Chamber Page/Lake Powell.
The farmers market started allowing baked goods and crafts at the end of the season last year and continued it this year.
“Having the various artisans add a lot to the feel and the atmosphere,” said Franz. “There was a wonderful spirit there Saturday. Everyone was engaged and helpful. The wind was our adversary in the beginning but it didn’t stop people from coming out and having fun. It was a great start to the season.”
