A six-month old Utah boy died after suffering a major head trauma in a boating accident Sunday. According to reports from the National Park Service and the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred in the Navajo Canyon section of Lake Powell.
While docking the houseboat on the beach the boat, struck too hard causing an adult to fall on the boy, injuring him.
National Park Service Rangers were patrolling the area at the time of the incident and responded immediately. They provided emergency first aid, rescue breaths and chest compressions while transporting the infant to Antelope Point Marina. From there the baby was transported to the Page Hospital by ambulance with the help of the Page Fire Department.
From there, the child was flown to Salt Lake City Children’s Hospital. During the early morning hours of Sept. 18, the child was pronounced dead.
The family of the boy resides in Bluffdale, Utah. The identity of the baby was not released.
The houseboat involved in the accident had 13 people on board, including several small children.
The accident continued a rough summer on Lake Powell, with several fatalities. The incident is under investigation by the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, the National Park Service and the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner.
